Calvino's Moon

The “Supermoon” we see on March 18 is not unlike the Moon in Italo Calvino’s story “The Distance of the Moon” from his book “Cosmicomics" (Harcourt, 1969, pp. 3-16) where he describes the Moon nearing the Zinc Cliffs and Fishermen in Boats putting ladders against the Moon and going to its surface to harvest “Moon Milk”. If the opportunity arises for you to do the same – move with speed for if you do not come back fast enough – it will be 2016 before you can – once again leave the Moon’s surface. Happy Supermoon!
